Etsy Mother's Day Trends for 2023

In 2023, Mother’s Day in the UK falls on Sunday 19th March and in the US, Sunday 14th May. According to Etsy’s 2023 data, Mother’s Day this year will largely be focused on finding "new takes on traditional gifts". But what does that mean for sellers? 👇

Personalisation is key 

Personalised or customisable gifting is a popular choice for Mother’s Day, as it can be considered a bit more special by the recipient. Mother’s Day 2023 gifts are likely to include the usual – personalised necklaces, birth flower charms and custom family portraits.

Organic spa gifts

Spa days have long been a popular Mother’s Day gift option for buyers and this year shoppers are focusing on organic, natural materials that create a calming, welcoming vibe. 

The usual – with a twist

Shoppers are looking to gift the mums in their lives elegant everyday items with novel details. According to Etsy experts, you should think “a vase with an unusual design, a woven blanket with a delicate fringe, a mug or planter in an unexpected colour.”

Bright and playful 

Colourful patterns and bold shapes are proving popular so far this year, particularly in the paper and party supplies category. These include whimsical Mother’s Day cards, fresh neon decor, imperfect doodle prints and graphic shapes.

When should you start promoting Mother's Day on your Etsy store? 

Shoppers love to leave purchasing to the last minute, but it’s best practice to start your Mother’s Day promotion three-four weeks in advance of the big day. This is enough time to give your customers to decide on the gift and takes into account delivery times. By giving yourself a month, you can make sure you’re well stocked up with products and are better able to prepare a marketing strategy. Plus, any seasoned Etsy seller knows that the postal service at the moment is not as reliable as it has been due to strikes, so promoting your Mother’s Day gifts sooner rather than later is a must for 2023!
